COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION

Hope Theatre Company is committed to working with all members of our community and bringing educational and original theatre to the region. Since staging ‘The Laramie Project’ we have continued to provide companion workshops, after-show discussions and education packages.

Some of this work includes:

COMMUNITY

THE LARAMIE PROJECT

  • Arranged theatre visits with school / youth groups / LGB Youth group
  • Arranged after-show discussions with the cast and school / youth groups / LGB Youth group .
  • Queer up North run included after-show discussion with members of Manchester City Council, educational groups and LGB charities.
  • After show discussion lead by former minister from Wyoming who spoke of his personal reaction to Matthew Shepard’s death.

VILLAGE VOICES

  • Interviews arranged in association with the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Manchester City Council and Age Concern.
  • Interviewees included members of BYOU  LGB Youth Group and Manchester Peer Support Project.
  • Interviewees later invited to a special performance and after-show discussion.

VOICES +

  • As part of Manchester Pride 2006, Hope Theatre Company produced the Closing Night HIV Candlelit Vigil for the George House Trust.
  • Project was devised from interviews with charity workers and people living with HIV.

EDUCATION

UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD

  • Hope Theatre Company has close links with the University of Salford, encouraging professional development of graduates and helping them gain representation and professional acting and technical work for, amongst others, the BBC, Granada TV and Lime Productions.

  • Hope Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Adam Zane has been a lecturer and director at the University since 2003. Shows include Threepenny Opera, Hushabye Mountain, The Women and Guantanamo Bay – the musical.

  • 2007 Produced schools tour of play and workshops about homophobia with BYOU LGB Youth Group.

Outloud

  • Currently working with Manchester City Council and the Lesbian and Gay Foundation to create a new theatre project for schools discussing homophobia and sexuality issues.
