COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION

Hope has a history of creating events that encourage active participation from audiences. Shows often feature after-show discussions with cast and crew, Q & A with guest speakers or workshops.

COMMUNITY

Hope is committed to engaging with all members of the community and has a history of creating theatre that gives a voice to groups at risk of social exclusion. By creating verbatim theatre with community groups and organisations such as Age Concern, the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and George House Trust, Hope have highlighted important social issues and created archives of social history.

Hope also endeavours to provide a range of activities such as after-show discussions, workshops and projects specifically designed for clients. Project work has included:

Voices +
Worked with the charity George House Trust to create the 2006 HIV Candlelit Vigil as part of Manchester Pride. Created a live verbatim theatre and music event, devised from interviews with people living with HIV. Event broadcast live on BBC Radio and attended by an audience of over 3500.

Romeo and Julian
Produced schools tour of play and workshops about homophobia with Wigan’s BYOU LGBT Youth group.

Outloud
Together with the play, Hope has worked with Manchester Healthy Schools to devise an interactive, multi-media workshop for schools that explores homophobia and the legacy of Matthew Shepard. Hope also contributes to Exceeding Expectations’ ongoing management and helps to create their educational resources
