The Laramie Project

Directed by Adam Zane

On October 7, 1998, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence in the hills outside Laramie, Wyoming, savagely beaten and left to die in an act of brutality and hate that shocked the world. Matthew Shepard’s death became an international symbol of intolerance, but for the people of Laramie the event was deeply personal and it is their voices we hear in this stunningly effective theatre piece. Moisés Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project created this ground-breaking play from over 200 interviews conducted with Laramie residents in the year following Matthew’s death.

Hope Theatre Company presented the North-west premiere in 2004.

Tectonic have invited Hope to present the UK premiere of The Laramie Project, 10 Years Later...An Epilogue on October 12 2009.
