Village Voices
Written and directed by Adam Zane
‘An innovative insight into people’s lives...Village Voices is inspirational in its simplicity. Listening in on other people’s intimate portrayals of lust, love, sex and relationships intertwined with great acting is like having a glass and listening up against a wall. A thoroughly enjoyable, well written, thought-provoking journey which leaves you aghast at just how far our community has come’

Village Voices [Alan] |
Developed from over 50 interviews with people who work or play in Manchester’s Gay Village, ‘Village Voices’ is a unique journey through our hidden history. Using Verbatim theatre, music and film, the play brings to life the secret world of Canal Street’s history. Vigils and virgins, riots and raids, cruising and crying, pubcrawls and mirrorballs - This is our village. These our our stories. Queer as F**k? – definitely!
2006 – Performed as part of the Queer Up North International Arts Festival. Ran to sell-out houses at Taurus, Canal Street.
2006 – Excerpts performed on BBC Radio Manchester for Manchester Pride.
2007 – ‘Village Voices’ is shortlisted for the Alfred Bradley BBC Radio Drama Award.
